With the harsh economy these days, it can be unnerving at work. Maybe you will be fired. Maybe you should achieve more. Try not to worry or get in a panic about how to quell the stress. It can be managed. The key is to collect information and viewpoints from other people about how to make it in your industry. Here are some helpful ideas:
- Watch out for going over the edge
If the stress is genuinely becoming too much for you, and you are experiencing genuine psychological and medical symptoms, take a step back.
If you have found yourself wondering how to cope effectively with panic symptoms, it may be time to talk to the office nurse or therapist.
Sometimes the best way to deal with such stress is to get proper tools from a pro. That’s what winners do.
- Keep your head about you
When you work in a group environment it is easy to fall prey to the group think mentality.
Always evaluate what you yourself think about an issue. Do not assume that the boss or CEO knows the best solution. that may or may not be true.
- Are you a fanatic?
Being a person who works 24 hours can have a down side. Put everything into perspective.
Yes, invest in your career, but not to the point of diminishing returns.
There is a fine line between pushing yourself just enough, and going over that line and creating poopy results.
- Specialize
It can be depressing when we do not know how to really do every part of our hob. We kind of feel like the great imposter.
Don’t worry.
If you can be totally excellent at some things, those are the ones you will be known for.
Build a safety net of talented friends and trade knowledge as necessary. Nobody can do or know it all.
- You are a role model
You are a role model for yourself. See where you have excelled in the past, and rinse and repeat. Maybe it was first in the area of art, and now you are interested in advertising. that’s okay. Try to tease out the characteristics that helped you succeed.
Why learn from failure, when it’s just as easy to learn from success?
- Focus and re-focus
Focus is practically trite these days, but how come more people do not do it? We are in a mega-overload of information. More technology does not necessarily mean we can accomplish more.
Ditch your ridiculously long to do list and pick three items that you would be happy to have done.
Then do them.
Then move on to the next three things tomorrow.
- Don’t forget to breathe
Some times we get so captivated by the jobs of the day, that we remain tense and wound up.
Take time to relax.
Breathe slowly and with attention to the rhythm of it.
Lunchtime is a good opportunity to take a break from it all.
In summary, you probably have more talents and reserves than you give yourself credit for. Business is tough, but you are tougher. The fact that you are aware of current economic conditions and trying to plan ahead means that you are taking action on all available information.
